As an instructional designer, educator, and lifelong learner, I believe in three essential design principles that make learning transformative:
To create experientially rich, learner-centered engagement. Learners will only perform—and not retain—knowledge and skills if the instruction is not meaningful to them.
To humanize the point-of-instruction at every opportunity. Education is not simply about the availability of information—it's about how it speaks to us as human beings with needs and goals.
To let the course outcomes and learner needs dictate the instructional tools—not the other way around. Simplicity is key to conveying complex ideas.
